A Bike, Hike and Climb - plus birding
Bess, Meg and I left Toubaniso one afternoon with no destination in mind... we rode out on Bikes... Meg suggested that we try to reach the cliffs in the distance - Bess and I didn't refuse. For this one afternoon during training, we three were free, there was no one to tell us what to do and where to be when. We peddled through open fields of Millet, Sorghum, and Corn, through village after village, naked children running around and playing in the dirt, and woman hard at work pounding grains... we reached the cliffs and hiked up to the top, our reward was a view of Bamako, the Niger river cutting through the city, and the vast green countryside surrounding Bamako. The natural beauty made us feel miles away from all the Hub-bub. I did a little bouldering... posed for some fake "Bare-Foot-Free-Soloing" pictures... and watched a small raptor sour above our heads. Bess was happy with grass... so green and soft...
